Have a job?
With several opportunities, the Skilled Worker Program is ideal for people who have an existing and guaranteed full-time job offer from a qualifying Canadian employer.
What is a Labour Market Impact Assessment?
An LMIA is a labor market verification process whereby Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) assesses an offer of employment. This is done to ensure that the hiring of a foreign worker will not harm the Canadian labor market. Employers will be required to provide a variety of information about the position for which they want to hire a foreign worker. Including the number of Canadians who applied for the job, who were interviewed, and detailed explanations for why resident Canadian's considered were not hired.
This method requires the utmost cooperation of your employer. A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is needed in most cases (the North American Free Trade Agreement – NAFTA – being one of the notable exceptions) and knowing which aspects to address and how to prepare a convincing application is paramount. The assistance of IAIS can be the decisive factor that can dramatically increase chances for success.
